What's the Best Sleepaway Camp for Boy-Girl Twins?
Boy-girl twins have the hardest camp search. A brother-sister camp gives each twin their own camp on the same lake.
Boy-girl twins have the hardest camp search of anybody.
Pick a boys camp and your daughter is out. Pick a girls camp and your son is out. Send them to two different camps and you're doing two drop-offs, two packing lists and two visiting days in two different states.
So most families land on coed. That works for a lot of kids. But think about what it means for twins. Same dining hall. Same activities. Same friends. Same everything, all day, all summer. Kind of like home.
The Short Answer
A brother-sister camp.
He goes to the boys camp. She goes to the girls camp. The two camps share one property. Each twin gets their own cabin, their own counselors, their own traditions and their own story. They meet up for the big stuff.
And you do one drop-off.
What Each Option Looks Like
- Boys camp or girls camp: Only works if you split them up. Two camps, two everything.
- Coed camp: One camp, but they're side by side all day. Great for some twins. Hard for a twin who wants their own thing.
- Two separate camps: Each kid gets their own summer. You get double the logistics.
- Brother-sister camp: Their own camps, one lake, one drop-off.
Why "Their Own Camp" Matters
Your twins have shared a birthday, a backseat and every party invite since day one.
At a brother-sister camp, your daughter walks into a girls camp where nobody knows her as "one of the twins." Same for your son. They make their own friends. They come home with their own inside jokes.
Then they compare notes at the all-camp events, which they love.
Ask These Questions on the Call
- How often do the boys and girls camps get together?
- Can my twins see each other if one has a rough day?
- Who calls me about each kid?
- Is there one drop-off and one visiting day for both?
- Do twins get the sibling discount?
About My Camp
I own Camps Kenwood & Evergreen in Wilmot, New Hampshire. Kenwood is the boys camp. Evergreen is the girls camp. Same lake.
We had two sets of boy-girl twins at camp last summer. Both families have been with us four years. One twin goes to Kenwood, the other goes to Evergreen, and they both come back every summer.
