Do Sleepaway Camps Give Twin Discounts?
Many camps have a sibling discount, and twins should count. Here's what to ask so you don't leave money on the table.
Two kids at sleepaway camp is a lot of money. Let's just say it.
So yes, ask about a discount. Most camps won't bring it up first.
The Short Answer
Most camps don't have a "twin discount." A lot of them have a sibling discount, and twins count.
At my camp it's 5 percent off the second camper and 10 percent off the third.
Questions to Ask Every Camp
- Do you have a sibling discount?
- How much is it, and is it off the second camper or both?
- Does it count if one twin goes for half the summer and one goes for the full summer?
- If my twins go to the brother and sister camps, do they still count as siblings?
- Is there financial aid on top of it?
That last one matters. A sibling discount is nice. Financial aid can be a much bigger deal. Lots of camps have it and don't advertise it well.
If Your Twins Go to Different Camps
Then there's no sibling discount, because they're at two different businesses.
This is one reason families with boy-girl twins look at brother-sister camps. Two camps, one lake, one bill, and the discount still applies.
Don't Pick a Camp on the Discount
A 5 percent discount at the wrong camp is still the wrong camp.
Pick the camp that fits both kids. Then ask about the discount. Then ask about aid.
About My Camp
I own Camps Kenwood & Evergreen, a brother-sister sleepaway camp in New Hampshire. Twins get the sibling discount: 5 percent off the second camper and 10 percent off the third. It counts whether your twins are both at Kenwood, both at Evergreen, or one at each.
